Last weekend I had, what I am calling, my first official visit to Canterbury. I have previously visited before with my boyfriend but only for a short walk whereas this time we stayed for the weekend so had two full days in the city.
I am lucky enough that my boyfriend drives so he drove us both there and we didn't have to worry about public transport or anything like that. On the first day, we walked through some of the lovely parks my boyfriend knows. He used to live there for a few years so he knew all the places to go and where to take some cute pictures. See below for just two of the aforementioned cute pics:
One of the parks my boyfriend took me to had a bull made from old railway tracks so naturally I had to get a picture with him, too. Would it really have been a day out with me if I didn't?
We went into a few shops too but didn't end up buying anything. My favourite shop we went in to was called Siesta. Siesta is a little fairtrade gift shop with lots of ethically sourced clothes and gifts. I wanted to buy so many things but as this was the first shop we went to.. I thought it would be better if I waited to see what else Canterbury had to offer. Spoiler alert: we went back the next day to buy things but you will have to read the next Canterbury blog post for that!
We explored all of the cute places and had an alcoholic beverage whilst sitting in the park. Please note: on this day I decided Pimm's in a can was not for me. blegh. However, we did discover that my boyfriend is indeed a fan of Gregg's vegan sausage rolls when he took a bite of mine earlier in the day. Yay for new experiences.
For dinner, my boyfriend took me to Cafe Des Amis which is a restauraunt he knows very well. So well, in fact, that he suggested we get the duck fajitas rather than me endlessly looking through the menu deciding what I wanted to eat. I agreed because they sounded delicious and probably what I would have chosen on the menu anyway. I also chose for us to have nachos for a starter because I LOVE nachos and I absolutely demolished all of the cheese and sour cream along with them (leaving the spicies for my boyfriend to eat). Disclaimer: I do eat largely vegetarian at home but if I am going out for a meal, I will eat meat sometimes. Please do not judge. Even small steps are steps in the right direction.
Anyway, the duck fajitas were incredible. We had mango salsa with them too and I filled my belly up as much as I physically could (whilst also leaving room for two churros for dessert). I highly recommend them and if you are going there for an alcoholic drink then I also highly recommend the frozen passionfruit margarita to drink... DELISH! (I have very sensitive teeth but this didn't bother me so, fear not). Although we had a relatively early dinner, I was absolutely pooped from walking around all day and putting myself in a self-induced food coma really did not help matters. So we made our way back to our Premier Inn for the evening with a couple of drinks and decided to explore more of Canterbury the next day.
I was planning to put all of Canterbury into one post. However, day one is already a lot longer than I had planned it to be so I am going to separate it into two posts so check back in a couple of days to read day two and what we bought from Siesta.
PS - credit to my boyfriend for literally all of these pics apart from the one of the nachos because turns out he is way better at taking photos than I am, oops.
Also, if anybody is wondering, my dress is from I SAW IT FIRST and I love it but I am not a fan of their customer service so do with that information what you will.
