What I Bought at Comic Con October 2019

On Saturday 26th October I attended MCM London Comic Con with my friend Dan. We both decided to cosplay for the occasion but you can read more about that in a blog post coming soon. For now, I can't wait to share with you the lovely things I purchased. One of my favourite things about Comic Con is being able to support independent businesses and finding out about companies I otherwise would never have knew existed.

Before I begin I would like to make a disclaimer to say I am not doing this to 'show off'. A lot of people have expressed interest in the things I have bought so I figured this post is something a few people will enjoy as I also like reading blog posts like this. All items were purchased with my own money.

This is going to be a long one so pop on your reading glasses and sip your cup of tea. Let's do this!

The first purchase I want to tell you about is this little guy. I have been following @littlebatblue on Instagram for a long while and have always wanted to own one of her creations. She crochets lots of octopuses (octopi??) and occasionally other animals too such as narwhals and spiders. Her items sell out very quickly so if you're wanting to get something from her at whichever con you are at, make sure you get there quick! When I got to her stall she barely had anything left, but she did have my little pumpkin octopus. I simply knew he had to be mine the second I saw him. For those of you who don't know, I am a big fan of pumpkins (in all seasons).
He is yet to be named so please leave your suggestions in the comments below.

Artists are a huge part of every comic con and as much as all the pieces I've seen are beautiful, I never really found any I wanted to own until now. These pieces are by @sezzadactyl. I chose the Lion King print as an A4 and the others are A5. She does her prints in lots of different sizes so they're worth checking out. I plan on getting these framed and will be adding them to my bedroom walls.

A slightly different type of art, this Hama bead creation was actually the first thing I purchased for a mighty steal of £5 (frame included). I can't tell you who was selling these because they had no business cards or shop name that I could see, they just existed! They had a whole range of characters and even had a bunch of smaller creations as Christmas decorations. As I love pigs, Pua especially, this piece had to be mine. I bought it from a little girl who told me it was the last one of Pua left for the whole weekend. He too will be going on my wall.

The next two things I would like to show you are books. This first one is eunoia & you by Lady Gabe. I've been sitting here for a few minutes now trying to think of how I can explain this book to you as excellently as it was explained to me and the only way I can think to do that is to read the blurb to you. So, here goes..

You've had a rough day. The sofa is calling but you still have a million tasks running through your mind.
When was the last time you stopped to take a note of how you're feeling? This question goes beyond the day-to-day feeling of being a little tired or overwhelmed with adulting.
Sometimes it's as simple as asking yourself, 'When was the last time you cried with laughter?'
Eunoia & You is all about self exploration, to escape from the monotony of your routine and to make space to meet yourself through simple yet fun acts of mindfulness.

If you're new here, you may not know that I have been diagnosed as having severe anxiety. Although I am much better currently due to the help of my trusty antidepressants, I still get overwhelmed very easily and love to try different mindfulness techniques as a way of coping with that. I am looking forward to lots of cosy evenings sitting with my electric blanket, sipping a cup of tea and filling in this book.

My next book is actually a colouring book. Who doesn't love a spot of adult colouring? (If your answer was "not me", then you are either wrong or have not ever tried it). This beautiful book is by Sophiralou. When I stumbled upon her stall I fell in love with all of her art work immediately and really wanted to own at least something of hers. However, I have a lot of clutter in my life and I didn't want to simply add more to it by buying a book of her art work and having it get lost in my never ending stacks of books. So, when I saw she had a colouring book, I fell in love immediately. This way I was able to own her art in an interactive way that I would spend time with and get to use my own creativity with. I have since discovered her YouTube channel which I highly recommend if you are into watching people draw and colour or are wanting to learn more.

Would Comic Con be Comic Con without seeing people carrying Funko tote bags around everywhere? Probably not. Despite owning too many pop vinyls, I accidentally bought two more on my visit. The first being Young Gamora who I purchased from the EMP stand. I looked at her very longingly for a while before deciding to walk away. However, only moments later I was dragging Dan back because I simply couldn't leave her. She was just too cute.

Throughout the day Dan had been wanting to visit the Funko area but the queues had been cut off because they were too long and if they became any longer they would be a health and safety risk. So, just before we were leaving for the day, we decided to go one last time. Luckily, this time the queue was super short and we were waiting for about five minutes before being let in. As a Lilo & Stitch lover (I even have 'ohana' tattooed on my ankle because I am a basic lady) and a pumpkin lover, it would have been absolutely rude not to get my hands on this con's exclusive Halloween Stitch pop! I was super debating it as I'd already spent quite a bit of money but as Dan said, I would have regretted it if I hadn't and the reason I save money is to spend it on days like this! He's a babe.

And... last but not least (actually quite the opposite, in my opinion this is the star of the show), I bought this DINOSAUR COVERED PINAFORE. It's amazing. It's incredible. It's comfortable. It's yellow. It's covered in dinosaurs. What is there not to love? I purchased this from @minimummouse It is my new favourite piece of clothing and I shall be wearing it forever more. In these photos I am wearing a black long sleeved jumper that I bought from River Island years ago but I'm also looking forward to being able to wear short sleeve t-shirts with it in summer too. Oooooh, how versatile.

Thank-you so much for taking the time to read my blog. If you're still reading, well done. You have won 50 Alex points. They're not redeemable anywhere but congratulations, they're all yours! If you can think of any names for my pumpkin octopus, please let me know in the comments below.
