If you are somebody who knows me at all, you will know that I cannot cook. Pasta bake is about as far as my cooking skills can get me and even then I buy the sauce in a jar. However, baking is something I am actually rather mediocre at. So, as a huge fan of Tanya Burr, I had to buy Tanya Bakes almost as soon as it hit the shops.
After admiring it for a few days debating over which recipe to start with, I finally decided to bake something from it. I chose the brownie cake to start with as it was my boyfriend's birthday and he fancied something chocolatey. It was quite a pricey cake to make but that's because I was lacking in the cake tin and scales department. So, after investing in those, I am all set to bake as many cakes as I need. The ingredients didn't actually cost much at all, and I could have made it cheaper but I decided to opt for the nicer ingredients considering I was making the cake for somebody else.
The recipe is written out so nicely and even comes with a little extract from Tanya Burr describing the recipe and why she put it in her book.
I won't write out how I baked the cake here, you will need to buy the book to know how to do that. (or have very good eye sight to read the picture below).
The recipe was very very easy to follow, probably the easiest to follow recipe that I have ever used! And I only needed one pan and cake tin to do everything which meant minimal washing up (which unless you are a freak who loves washing up, is a total bonus).
The only issue I found in the process of baking is that it needed five minutes longer than the book specified. However, my boyfriend's oven usually takes longer than it should take to cook something so that is the oven's fault and not the book!
Taste test: IT WAS SO DELICIOUS I LOVE IT SO MUCH. Please note: this was my first attempt at a brownie, never mind a brownie in cake form! I am super proud of myself for not burning down my boyfriend's kitchen and I am super proud of Tanya Burr for making such an amazing baking book.
I give this book 5 stars ***** and would recommend it to anyone who loves baking, wether you are a fan of YouTube or not.
Also, bonus points to Tanya Burr! My boyfriend hates YouTuber's books with a burning passion, but he actually likes this one!
i do agree it needed an extra five minutes to bake than the recipe said x
