World Book Night 2014

After being a giver for World Book Night in 2013, when I received the email informing me that applications for World Book Night 2014 were well under way I knew I wanted to be a part of it for my second year running. The book I applied to give was 'Rivers of London' by Ben Aaronovitch - a book I have heard countless positive reviews about from both people who read an awful lot and from people who read less than one book a year: it was perfect!

Around March I received an email telling me that my application had been successful and that I needed to choose a collection point to pick up my 18 copies of the book. I did so and a few weeks later they were ready to be collected!

The World Book Night books have special edition covers unlike original printed copies of the book. Upon collection of my books I had to write my name and my collection point out eighteen times before I could start giving them away on World Book Night - 23rd April 2014.

The aim of World Book Night is to distribute books to people who don't have books in their house and to people who don't read a lot.
The first person I gave a book to was my dad. Being a girl who reads all the time, it depresses me that my family don't love libraries and reading as much as I do! My Dad hasn't read a book since the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows in 2007. So, 7 years later, he was more than happy to receive a new book to read which also involved a lot of magic - he's making his way through it, slowly but surely!
I then took the books to my sixth form and started hunting down the people who didn't read often. And, by 15:30, I had an empty box!

Taking part of World Book Night has been a great experience and I hope I get the opportunity to do it again in future!
