Getting into the Garden

With making the decision to close my Etsy shop, I was starting to feel really useless. I am definitely the kind of person who likes to keep busy and fill my spare time with things that at least feel productive even if they are not.

Last year I planted pumpkin seeds and really relished in watching them grow. I remember taking a photo of them one morning and then again in the afternoon and comparing how much my seedlings had grown in just a few hours of sunlight. Despite caring for them every waking minute, I did not get any pumpkin fruit in 2021. However, the process of caring for the seedlings and seeing their vines grow was still an incredibly fun process for me. It wasn't all failures to be had though. I did have two successful sunflowers last year and two successful tomatoes. Nope, not two successful tomato plants... two singular successful tomatoes. But, I'll take what I can get!

I have slowly been acquiring a couple more house plants over the last 12 months and I realised I really wanted to get into planting more bits outdoors. If I have space to attempt a pumpkin then I have the space (or at least my boyfriend does) to try a few more bits. So, I've been following a lot of garden blogs online, reading some magazines, and have now even made my own gardening insta! I am really loving taking the photos for my instagram and sharing my gardening adventures with you. I'll be sharing every success and every failure and let's face it, there will probably be more of the latter!

So far in 2022 I have planted sunflowers, nasturtiums, snapdragons, betony, leek and radish. I don't think this round of snapdragons or betony are going to germinate but I have plenty more seeds to try with. I still cannot pronounce nasturtiums correctly so I've resorted to referring to them as my little narstitchies. I still don't have a tonne of gardening space so I can't grow limitless numbers of veggies and flowers so I am picking my favourites. Saying that... goodness know why leeks have made the list because I don't know if I've ever bought a leek to cook!

I am really excited to see what I can grow this year and I would love for you to follow my journey on here and on Instagram. My next blog post shall be a "what I'm sowing in March" post so stay tuned for that.
